Sarah and her husband Mike started Long Acres Alpaca Farm in 2004. Sarah oversees the husbandry, breeding, birthing, feeding, and day-to-day care of the 100+ huacaya alpaca herd and teaches hands-on classes in many aspects of farming. Ninety percent of our operation is in the commercial industry, and we maintain a 10% interest in the artisan market with our smaller grey alpaca program. Sarah’s goal is to create a consistent white production herd for marketing to fiber farms and engaging new startup operations. Sarah believes that an integral part of this business plan is the ability to measure spin qualities of raw fleece objectively. Thus began the journey to learn spinning and become an AOA Spin-Off Judge.
