With over 20 years in the industry, we feel that our experience offers benefits to both the newly interested and the established alpaca breeder. We all learn from our mistakes – and ours have been just as important as our triumphs. Back in 2002 one look at the cute “huggable” alpaca and we were smitten. We had no background in livestock. None!! Didn’t stop us, we dove headfirst. And wow did we learn. There is nothing like on-the-job training!
Would we approach alpaca ownership differently now? Absolutely. Would we still be alpaca farmers? Absolutely!! There is so much more research out there about fiber, evaluations, conformation, color genotypes, EPDs, sustainability, farm setups, pasture rotations, utilizing all alpaca fiber, agritourism, and of course alpaca shows! We will share all our information with an interested breeder. We will also share all about AOA and the font of information, reliable people, and the farms. We believe in the importance of sustainability both in fiber and farms and in promoting farms across the country.
And we are proud of our herd too! We boast some of the best grey males and foundation females in the country. One of our strongest assets is our herdsires. We have the honor of breeding and raising our 4x Judge's choice (23 banners winner) Rosehaven’s Triple Threat. He has gone where his progeny now have over 13 banners themselves and growing! But that is only 50% of the product the rest is in our females. We offer herdsire breedings to our champions, as well as the sale of their offspring and bred females. And for those looking for pet alpacas, we have some of the friendliest alpacas!!
Rosehaven Alpacas is located on a 40-acre farm in Callicoon, New York, in the foothills of the Catskills. Located less than 2 hours from New York City, 1 hour from Binghamton New York, and 3 hours from Philadelphia. We are also 15 minutes from the original site of the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. We have a large alpaca festival at Bethel Woods every Sunday of Labor Day and are at all their harvest festival days. We are also proud to be part of Union Square Greenmarkets on Fridays and Saturdays during fall and winter.
