Veterinarian Referral

The hospital should be called prior to leaving the farm to ensure we have available stall space, and to ensure we will be ready to receive/manage the emergency case. A formal referral by a veterinarian is not required. However, a referral by a veterinarian is encouraged to ensure we have a complete history of treatments/diagnostics performed prior to arrival.

Telephone Consultations

The Massachusetts practice act for veterinary medicine precludes us from providing treatment and/or guidance for patients we have not examined. For a Massachusetts veterinarian to provide treatment recommendations there must be a valid Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship, which is established by evaluating the patient. If we had previously evaluated the alpaca, we would be able to provide follow-up consultations on those specific patients.
