Both exhibitors and alpacas earn points on their placements at AOA Certified Fleece Shows using the same method. The AOA database is the official Book of Record for tracking points.
The show season is June 1 through May 31. Points reset on June 1 of each year.
The annual award ceremony will take place during the AOA National Fleece Show.
The Exhibitor is the individual who enters the alpaca fleece into a show. Competitions eligible for points include Walking Fleece, Fleece, and the Innovative Fleece Assessment (IFA).
Exhibitors are divided into small, medium, or large farm categories. The number of females less than 15 years of age and registered as breeders in the AOA database to the exhibitor determines the farm size.
For exhibitors that show both Suri and Huacaya alpacas, the points for their exhibitor designation will be determined based on the breed of the alpaca that won the points (e.g., points won for a huacaya entry will not be considered for a suri award).
Points are tallied by the exhibitor name in the AOA database.
Suri/Huacaya farms that have accrued the most points at the end of the show season will be eligible for the following awards
New Suri/Huacaya farms (5 years or less in the AOA database) that have accrued the most points at the end of the show season will be eligible for the following awards
The Suri/Huacaya alpaca with the most points at the end of the show season will be awarded the following
The exhibitor who enters the alpaca in the show earns the points on co-owned alpacas.
The class size determines the number of points awarded. For example, if your alpaca wins in a class of seven, both the alpaca and the exhibitor earn six points. Second place earns five points and third place earns four points.
