Important Updates for 2025

Streamlining Processes and Enhancing Communication

As we prepare for 2025, we’re pleased to share some important updates designed to strengthen our commitment to you and the alpaca community.

Alpaca Name Change Policy

Effective immediately, our updated AOA Alpaca Name Change Policy (04-05) ensures greater integrity in the registration process. This policy allows only the original registrant of an alpaca to request a name change, and only under specific circumstances.

Eligible circumstances for name changes include:

  • A misspelled name.
  • An alpaca was submitted with the incorrect gender.
  • DNA testing validated a different sire or dam.

We’ve streamlined the process to ensure accuracy and fairness while safeguarding registrants. Visit our website to read the updated policy 04-05 Alpaca Name Changes, including the steps for requesting a name change.

A New Era in Member Communication

After careful consideration, the AOA Board of Directors has made the decision to discontinue Alpacas Magazine. This was not an easy choice, as the magazine has been a beloved resource for many of you since its inception. However, declining readership and rising production costs made it necessary to pivot toward a more sustainable solution.

We understand the importance of keeping you informed and engaged. That’s why we’re committed to developing a new communication platform tailored to your needs. This will be:

  • Timely: Providing updates as they happen.
  • Relevant: Covering topics that matter most to you, including trends, member spotlights, and industry insights.
  • Accessible: Easily available online to support your alpaca journey.

Your voice is crucial in shaping this new initiative. Please share your thoughts on what would make this resource most valuable to you by completing this one question survey.

Looking Ahead

Change is never easy, especially when it involves something as cherished as Alpacas Magazine. Yet, we believe this transition will open doors to new opportunities, fostering deeper connections and delivering value in fresh, innovative ways.

Thank you for being part of our vibrant community. Together, we’ll continue to grow and support the alpaca industry for years to come.
